No – seriously, our goal was to create an alternative way of consuming Bio Astaxanthin, one that tastes great, has a high bioavailability but also goes a step further to offer something more. Cacaoastax achieves this by using 100% organic cacao, not using any sugars, unhealthy oils or artificial sweeteners and instead combing it with naturally sweet prebiotic fiber from the root of the chicory vegetable.

This combination naturally mimics liposomal formulations as cacao polyphenols protect the active molecules of bio astaxanthin and the prebiotic fibers then carry it throughout the entire digestive system. By consuming it in cacao stick form, you don’t need to worry about taking it on an empty stomach and having bad reflux throughout day, cacao also releases feel-good hormones like Endorphins, Serotonin, and Dopamine and finally it lowers the Ghrelin hormone which reduces our impulses to eat.

Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid, it is the world’s strongest antioxidant and can be found in a micro algae called Haematococcus pluvialis. It can neutralize free radicals (unstable molecules or atoms, that cause damage to cells or tissues in the body) ensuring cell health and cell longevity.

Its effectiveness is due to the shape and length of its molecule and its solubility in water and fats. The molecule permeates the cell walls rather than sticks onto the cells. Unlike many other potent antioxidants (vitamin E, β-Carotene, Zeaxanthin), Astaxanthin cannot turn into a pro-oxidant making it safe even at high doses. Astaxanthin can handle up to 19 free radicals at once while most other antioxidants only 1.

Cacaoastax uses Bio astaxanthin, the difference is that most astaxanthin comes from Hawaii or China, it’s harvested in open bodies of water but without anyway to precisely control external pollutants and water quality, this can have a negative effect on the potency and strength of the active molecule. Our Bio astaxanthin comes from our partner Algamo, the only EU certified Bio facility which grows the strongest most potent astaxanthin within an enclosed bioreactor where water quality is controlled and no external pollutants can cause damage to the microalgae.

Bio astaxanthin is safe for daily consumption. According to EU guidelines, the ideal dosage ranges from 4 mg to 12 mg per day. Each of our sticks contains 4 mg, so you can have up to 3 tasty cacao sticks a day. Consuming more than this poses no health risks, as the body cannot overdose on astaxanthin. However, beyond 12 mg, the body naturally metabolizes and excretes the excess, rendering higher doses unnecessary.

Our goal was to make our product as healthy as possible; we know that if healthy food doesn’t taste great, it can be hard to convince yourselves to keep eating it. It is also important to note that astaxanthin tastes absolutely horrible, similar to Omega 3, the fishy taste is just too overpowering and is the main reason astaxanthin is sold in capsules, so you swallow them without needing to chew and taste them.

When product development started, we knew that the taste must be hidden and but also that as a premium health supplement, we need to eliminate any sugars, oils and artificial sweeteners. During 2020, Chocotopia developed Sweet Fiber chocolate, a chocolate sweetened only by natural fibers from the root of the chicory vegetable. On the basis of this formulation, cacaoastax redeveloped the recipe and after 2 years of further research, development and testing (tasting) the final version of our vision for cacaoastax was achieved.

To answer the question simply, the role of chicory root fiber is the provide a sweet taste but most importantly also to hep increase the bioavailability of the Bio astaxanthin by acting as a carrier within the digestive system. This is because the human body cannot digest fiber, so the active nutrient has more time to be absorbed into the blood stream.

There is no significant difference in taste between cacaoastax any other premium dark chocolate. Cacaoastax uses naturally sweet fiber from the root of the chicory vegetable to provide a sweet taste, important to remember though is that the cacao content is 70%, which for some can high, especially if they are not used to a high content of cacao.

On its own Bio astaxanthin tastes absolutely horrible, we made sure that in cacaoastax this taste is hidden enough so that the stick is tasty but we also wanted there to be at least a slight taste of it so you can be sure you’re actually consuming the world’s strongest antioxidant.
